Manufacturing Future Program

Are you a student interested in becoming a participant in the Manufacturing Futures Program?

Are you a business in the manufacturing industry interested in supporting the Manufacturing Futures Program?

The Manufacturing Futures Program has been designed to engage Year 10 students in developing real skills and gaining real experiences conducive to obtaining a career in manufacturing.

The program is to provide potential School-Based Apprentices or Trainees (SAT's) with basic skills combined with some hands-on experience that profiles their suitability to engage in SAT's positions in Year 11. The program involves students in Term 3 and Term 4 of Year 10 completing their Construction Blue Card, Senior First Aid, Workplace Health and Safety training and experiencing Industry Tours.

Prospective manufacturing employers in our region have come to adopt 'hardened' screening and selection methodologies over failure rates of engaging SAT's into their businesses, and the costs of doing so. This Manufacturing Futures Program looks to bolster the manufacturing confidence in engaging SAT's via the pre-vocational exposure methodologies adopted in this program.

School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)

“FIRST has developed and maintained a good relationship with a number of the high schools in the region and as such is in a good position to act as a broker between industry and schools when industry is attempting to find employees as SATs or full time employees. Through our networks we are able to source and recommend students to industry.”

Services To Schools

As part of our commitment to industry and informing school students of possible career opportunities and options, FIRST is always willing to work with schools to develop programs or one-off sessions. The most common topic is related to broadening students, parents and teachers knowledge of available trades and other job options. Generally students are aware of 5 or 6 trade opportunities; we give them a brief introduction to the 141 available trades and almost 500 traineeships.

We welcome any enquiries from schools across the region.
